The rich history of our congregation

In the Congo region

By Monsignor Mathyssen and under the influence of Father Verstraete of Ingelmunster, both missionaries to Africa, the congregation was asked to send some sisters to the Belgian Congo.

In 1930, the first sisters left for Fataki. They founded a mission there with a hospital and school.

A novitiate for native nuns was started in Fataki In 1957.

Than, together with the then many active missionaries, started the mixed missionary life and expansion of initiatives. Many apostolates were state-owned, managed by the diocese.

Anno 2025, many communities and also own apostolate works have been added, thanks to the large growth in the number of sisters and can thus meet the big needs for help in education and care for the population.

THE CONGO DRAMA

An important and eventful chapter in our history is the Congodrama of November 27, 1964.
